Hamilton County R3Source offers multiple grants ranging from easy, non-competitive grants to a larger, competitive grant available for communities, schools, non-profit organizations, and businesses.
- Waste Reduction Innovation Grant
- Greater Cincinnati Smart Kitchen Initiative
- Residential Recycling Incentive (RRI)
- R3Source Infrastructure Grant
- No due date for grant proposals
- $10,000 available per project
- 25% match required – non-profit match may be “in kind”
- 100% of grant funds released once grant contract signed by all parties (usually 2-3 months from when proposal submitted). Any unused grant funds will need to be returned.
- 12 months to complete the project

- No due date for proposals or inquiries
- Open to mid-to high-volume foodservice operators in Hamilton County
- Funding available for food waste tracking technology and/or food donation infrastructure

- Open to communities to receive funds for waste reduction-related projects
- Funding based on community diversion rate and the tons recycled
- Local governments in Hamilton County fill out an annual application to report tons recycled, composted and landfilled the previous year

Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Recycling & Litter Prevention Grant Opportunities
Ohio EPA's Recycling and Litter Prevention program supports communities, businesses and academic institutions that initiate or expand recycling programs, encourage sustainable practices, stimulate economic growth and support litter prevention efforts through four different grants. 2022 applications opens on Monday, November 2, 2021 and close on Friday, February 5, 2022.

- Open to local governments and nonprofits
- Applications due February 5, 2022
- Maximum grant request ranges from $3,000 to $200,000 depending on the project
- Grant funds recycling equipment, curbside and drop-off recycling programs, special venue recycling, outreach and education, contamination reduction, tire amnesty events, surveillance cameras, litter clean-up and more.
- 25% cash/credit match required
- 50% of grant funds released on July 1 and remaining funds released after closeout report approved by OEPA
- Grantees have 12 months to complete the project

- Open to Ohio businesses, but must apply through a government sponsor (Hamilton County R3Source can act as a sponsor)
- Because this grant requires the business to have a government sponsor, you must notify Mary Cropenbaker if you are interested in applying by December 6th, 2021
- $200,000 available for recycling equipment
- 100% cash/credit match required
- Grant funds released after final closeout report approved by OEPA
- Grantees have 24 months to complete the project
- Public and private K-12 schools, colleges, and universities can apply
- Applications due February 5, 2022
- Maximum grant requests range from $3,000 to $300,000 depending on the project
- Grant funds recycling equipment, special venue recycling, outreach and education, litter clean-up events, scrap tire for civil engineering/construction projects and more.
- 25% cash/credit match required for all, except scrap tire project requires 100% match.
- 50% of grant funds released on July 1 and remaining funds released after closeout report approved by OEPA
- 12 months to complete all projects, except scrap tire projects allows up to 24 months to complete the project
- Student involvement encouraged
- Governments, non-profits and for-profit businesses can apply
- Applications for governments and non-profits due February 5, 2022
- Business must notify Mary Cropenbaker if you are interested in applying by December 6th, 2021
- $300,000 available per project
- 100% cash/credit match required
- Governments and non-profits receive 50% of grant funds on July 1 and remaining after closeout report approved by OEPA
- Businesses receive grant funds once final closeout report approved by OEPA
- Grantees have 24 months to complete project
